Customizations

The following UI areas can be customized in Zephyr:

Application Skin

Zephyr allows you to customize the entire look and feel of your application by changing the Zephyr Skin to one of 3: Carbon, Classic and Steel.

On clicking the thumbnails, the new skin is loaded but not applied until you click on the Save button. Once a skin is saved, all Desktops and Dashboards on their next launch will now have the new skin.

User Roles

Zephyr comes with 4 default roles (Test Manager, Test Lead, Tester, Defect User) but then allows you to create (or modify or delete) additional roles and decide which Department-level of Project-level applications those roles can have access to in their Desktops. The default roles cannot be modified or deleted.

In the example here, a new role "admin" has been created and 2 Department-level apps - Administration and Resource Management - have been turned on for that role.

Once a role has been created, then users can be assigned those roles in the Resource Management application. Those users will also have to be allocated to a project in order to log into Zephyr and use Project-level applications.

Requirements: Custom Fields

Zephyr allows the creation of custom fields for requirements. Clicking on the "Fields" button of the Requirement section allows you to add, modify or delete custom fields for your requirements.

IMPORTANT: It is very important to note that database levels changes will be made during this process and hence all users need to be logged out of the system. In order to make these changes, please click on the "Lock Zephyr access" button. This will log off all users and keep them locked out till you have completed the modifications. Once completed, you can enable their access by clicking on the "Enable Zephyr access" button.

Once you have locked up access, you can add, modify or delete these requirement fields. There are no limits to the number of custom fields you can create.

Custom fields fall into 6 types:

  1. Text = This is a single line field that allows text entry. A maximum of 1024 characters are allowed

  2. Long Text = This is a multi-line free form text area. A maximum of 32K characters are allowed

  3. Picklist = Also known as a drop-down list box, this allows a list of pre-defined values

  4. Checkbox = A 2-state checkbox, always defaulted to being unchecked

  5. Date = A date picker field

  6. Number = This is a single line field that accepts only whole numbers and decimals

All fields are not mandatory by default. There is also the option to let them imported or exported - which are turned on by default.

The following example shows how 3 custom fields have been added and their various parameters have been set. Notice the "Enable Zephyr access" button which means all users are logged out until this process has been completed (as database changes are involved).

Testcases: Custom Fields

Zephyr allows the creation of custom fields for testcases. Clicking on the "Fields" button of the Testcase section allows you to add, modify or delete custom fields for your testcases.
